Overview

This tour is hosted by myself on a very personal and private level. I am a third generation Jew born and living in this lovely city and my family's history is a wonderful illustration of how the Jewish Community in Ireland came to be. While my tours are very small group experiences I can also offer larger groups the same care and attention. Apart from the times shown at attractions we also will have relaxed strolls, pauses for coffee-even Irish Coffee! Photo stops are no problem and the entire experience will be very flexible and laid back.

What To Expect

Irish Jewish Museum
Here you will find the original Walworth Road Synagogue and in the Museum you will experience the history and heritage of Dublin's Jewish Community. Many artifacts and historical documents and a knowledgeable docent to guide you through this treasure trove . As we are now in the heart of the Old Jewish Quarter of Dublin we will take a gentle stroll through this historic area, passing by the original Jewish School, Zion Schools, The home of the Hertzogs-Chaim who was in the same school in Dublin as my kids became Israeli president. His father Rabbi Hertzog was our Chief Rabbi. I will show you the house where my father lived with his family in 1900. That side of my family fled form Lithuania in 1870 and came here via England. Many other locations of Jewish Heritage interest.

The Bretzel was opened in 1870 by a Jewish immigrant family typically fleeing from the anti semitic pogroms in Russia, Lithuania and Poland. My own family took a similar route to safety in Ireland and I will show my guests a remarkable collection of historical family photos and documents illustrating this traumatic voyage that they and many others undertook. The Bretzel will be our first stop and Kosher Challas and Bagels are still baked and served-and great coffee!! IOt really is a lovely and informative start to our time together. From here we can take a relaxing short stroll around the Old Jewish Quarter stopping at the exterior of some important locations such as Zion Schools which closed in 1973 which was before the Jewish population moved out of the area into a wealthier suburb where the current Orthodox Synagogue was built in 1953 . We also will pass Greenville Hall Synagogue closed since 1975
